Lyrics
Job Chapter 34
So Elihu continued to speak.
"Hear my words you wise men, give ear to me. Let us choose to use sound judgment. For Job has said, 'I am righteous, but God has passed judgment on me, that I have not lied. I am innocent, that I am unjustly punished for I am pure.' What other man could be as arrogant as Job who spits out scornings like water? Surely he has spent too much time in the company of wicked men, for he has said, 'There is no profit for a man in delighting himself with the Almighty.' Far be it from God that He should do wickedness, that the Almighty should commit an act of sin. For the works of a man justify how God rewards him. Surely God will not do evil, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment. Who else has charge over the whole earth? Who else but God can render judgement for the entire world? If He sets His heart against man and withdraws his spirit and breath, all life would perish. Listen now and try to understand. Could God govern if He hated what was right? Would you condemn the Almighty who is most pure and just? Is it fit to say to a king, 'You are evil,' or to a prince, 'You are ungodly'? How much less to the Almighty who shows no regard for princes or respects the rich more than the poor? For all men are the work of His hands. In a moment they die. The mighty and the small shall all depart, taken away by no human hand. For God sees all the ways of man. There is no darkness nor shadow of death where wicked people may hide themselves. God will not lay upon a man what is not right, hence no man can enter into judgment with God. He shall take mighty men and brake them to pieces and set others in their place. He knows what they do, the way they live and He overturns them in the night, because they turn their backs on Him and would not consider the ways of God. They persecuted the poor until they cried out to God and He heard the cry of their affliction. When God makes it quiet, who then can make trouble? When He hides His face, who can behold Him? Whether He passes judgment on an entire nation or against a man only, that a wicked man should not reign lest all the people be ensnared by His evil. Surely it is correct to say to God, 'We have borne your chastisement and we will sin no more.' Or say to Him, 'Show is what evil we have committed and we will do it no more.' God will render His will whether you refuse or whether you choose and not I. Therefore, speak what you know about this. Let men of understanding tell me and let a wise man help me. For Job you have spoken like a fool with no knowledge. Your words are without wisdom. My desire is that you, Job should be tried and punished for the wickedness you have spoken. For now you have added rebellion unto your sin. You have stood arrogantly among us speaking words against God."
Job Chapter 35
"Do you think Job it is right for you to say, 'My righteousness is more than God's?' For you said, 'What advantage will it be? What profit shall I have if I am cleansed of my sin?' I will answer you Job along with your companions. Look unto the heavens and see, behold the clouds which are high above you. If you sin, what does that do against God? If your transgressions are multiplied, what harm does that have against God? And if you are righteous, what good does that do for God? What can He possibly receive from your hand? Your wickedness may hurt another man or your righteousness may profit another man. But none say, 'Where is God my maker who gives songs in the night? Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the fouls of the heaven?' No, they continue to cry out, but there is no answer because of the pride of evil men. Surely God will not listen to a proud, arrogant man. He will take no regard of him. Although you do not see God, all judgment is before Him, therefore we place our trust in Him. But now Job, you feel it is not right that God has visited you in anger, yet you have not known His full wrath. Therefore Job, you open your mouth in vain and speak word after foolish word, void of all wisdom."
